Built on the same open-source core as the free Community Edition, DotNetNuke Pro Edition offers exclusive features, as well as fully supported, documented and secure software package, helping corporations cut back the value of site and web application development and upkeep, offering a very extensible tool kit that maximizes their existing Microsoft investments. “DotNetNuke already powers many thousands of production sites, but we recognized that affiliations running business-critical web sites required further services and product features which weren’t available in the free Community Edition,” DotNetNuke president and Manager Navin Nagiah recounted in an announcement.

The new release of the DotNetNuke Pro Edition gives our customers the interesting product features, support, and flexibleness they need for success. DotNetNuke Pro Edition 5.1 offers support for sophisticated Google Analytics functionality, content approval that permits directors to form custom workflows, file access authorizations that provide more granular security rights, and file integrity checking that reviews files in the installation and reports any inconsistencies which will impact internet site trustworthiness, as well as network-based health monitoring that pings the site intermittently to spot screw ups and inform the site owner, making sure the site stays in internet server memory for quicker user accessibility.

It also has a weakness database that cross references each purchaser’s product version teasily identify potential issues. DotNetNuke Pro Edition is also designed for organizations with high internet site traffic, offering distributed caching for more effective resource use in web farms. DotNetNuke founder Shaun Hiker explains the pro edition helps guarantee a web application can handle high traffic eventualities by integrating a caching solution into the application architecture to keep the most commonly used info in memory.

The Microsoft ASP.NET framework ( which DotNetNuke is built on ) provides a basic caching solution but it is restricted to a single website server as it has no in-built capability to synchronize cache items across multiple web servers,” Hiker recounted in a press release. “DotNetNuke has built an additional layer on top of the ASP.NET caching solution which allows for web farm synchronization using three different approaches : database polling, file system dependency, and web service.

The web service solution was developed in particular for DotNetNuke Professional Edition 5.1, and is the best solution for major business environments.”. DotNetNuke Pro Edition offers all the benefits of the DotNetNuke platform that have drawn thousands of developers.  Nagiah claimed the largest reason developers select DotNetNuke its simplicity of use.  “It’s straightforward to use and its users like it a lot.  The second [reason] is that it’s flexible and extensible.

It is a framework that helps you employ a site out of the box, and at the same time, it is flexible in that if there’s an aspect that you hate, ( for example if you do not like the forms module, or the workflow module, or something else ) you can take that out, build your own module and plug it in, or you should purchase a module from a third party vendor.”. Users can simply extend the DotNetNuke solution by buying add-on extensions from the DotNetNuke Marketplace, which features thousands of third party software modules and skins from masses of independent sellers.

DotNetNuke Pro edition is indeed a valuable contribution to the developer community. Although the use of ASP.NET framework does has its limitations like scalibility. Luckily there are a couple of distributed caching solutions avaiable in this niche which are into production environment for some years now and NCache tops them all. So if you are planning on using DotNetNuke with a fast, scalable and reliable .NET Distributed Caching solution you are in for a treat. Check out NCache here.
