EPA Recognizes 1&1 Internet’s Kansas Data Center as a Leading Green Power Purchaser
1 & 1 Internet, Inc., host the world’s largest known web servers, announced today that its Lenexa, Kansas data center has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a green energy partner for the annual purchase of 17.5 million kilowatt – hour (kWh) of green power (electricity generated from environmentally preferable renewable resources such as wind , solar, hydroelectric and geothermal). This is equivalent to 100 percent of purchased electricity use in the Data Center of Kansas.
1 & 1 Internet for new partnership with the EPA is the next step of the company in its efforts to protect the environment. Green in 2008, 1 & 1 first bought licenses-e renewable energy certificates (RECs) from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, a leading national provider of green energy products, as an initiative to reduce the impact of the company’s climate Earth. The EPA estimates that 1 & 1 new green power purchase to its Kansas data center is equal to the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) of more than 2,000 passenger vehicles per year.

Globally, 1 & 1’s five data centers are among the most efficient energy centers of the data in existence. In addition to purchasing RECs for the Lenexa, Kansas data center, 1 & 1 continues its efforts through the use of green power sources, high efficiency with less than 20 percent of heat loss, and the failure of the components unnecessary within their servers.

The Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program for organizations can participate to help raise awareness of green energy. Energy generation thereby creating a zero net increase in CO2 emissions. Green purchasing power also increases support for the development of new ways of generating renewable energy nationwide.
