Equinix Continues Expansion of Swiss Operations with Second Data Center Planned for Geneva
Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), a global provider of data center, today announced plans to build a new 4,500 square meters (48,400 square feet), a data center in Geneva, Switzerland. The new data center GV2 International Business Exchange ™ (IBX ®) is part of the strategy of continued expansion of Equinix to meet growing global demand for data center services and data will be the second company located in downtown Geneva . The new project is more than twice the data center earns in the region and is part of 1.4 billion U.S. dollars Equinix 2007-2010 expansion program for 15 of the 18 markets where it currently operates.
The data center will be built in phases with the first phase, scheduled to open in December 2009, adding to the capacity of 380 cabinets Equinix in the Swiss market. GV2 The center, which will be located west of downtown, is based on the range of existing services hosted at Equinix Data Center in Geneva (GV1), which is a strategic location for telecom operators and ISPs Internet-based supply and businesses Geneva banks.
