Expanding its product portfolio for data centers and large-scale environments of cloud computing, wired and wireless communications semiconductor developer Broadcom Corp. (www.broadcom.com) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Dune Networks ( www.dunenetworks.com), which implements the switching matrix solutions for data center networking equipment.
“Duna massively scalable interconnect fabric, along with our Ethernet products, increase our portfolio of equipment for the network hub,” said Vice President of Broadcom’s network switching and general manager Martin Lund said in a statement. “This technology is particularly well adapted to meet emerging needs for cloud computing networks on a large scale, and allow us to address new markets for Ethernet applications in the datacenter.
According to the announcement this week, Broadcom, Broadcom expects to pay approximately $ 178 million to acquire all outstanding shares of capital stock and other rights of Dune. Excluding any purchase accounting adjustments and related fair value measurements, Broadcom expects the acquisition of Dune is neutral to slightly accretive to earnings per share in 2010. The boards of both companies have approved the merger and closure is expected to occur late in the first quarter of Broadcom, ending 31 March 2010, subject to customary closing conditions.
Dune bring highly scalable switch fabric technology from Broadcom, which will help meet the needs of data centers that are giving more bandwidth to meet the requirements of cloud computing and other services in real time through Internet. Duna Chipset supports scalable bandwidth speeds up to 100 Gbps per port and can connect more than ten thousand servers in a single implementation.
Fabric distributed connection “Dune Networks is a complement to the existing product suite of Broadcom,” Dune CEO Eyal Dagan, said in a statement. “Our customers will be able to bring to market low cost, high performance data switching center that will allow end users to build the next generation of cloud computing networks.
