Hootie and the blowfish a serious Xbox gamer

Submitted by on 11 December, 2021 – 4:34 pm

Don’t reject it, you have derided the band name Hootie the Blowfish. Plenty of assume the name is mad so that the lead singer–the guy everyone thinks is named Hootie–must be silly too. Darius Rucker is in reality the crooner’s name and he did not seem silly when we spoke on the telephone last month. He appears friendly and fun-loving and extremely interested in technology–specifically in video games. I should qualify that by noting he is fun up to a point.

When he is playing EA Sports’ Madden NFL Nintendo game, he likes to win and will get evil if you attempt to sneak a peek at the plays he is calling.

He is also significant when he debates what EA can do to boost the game. In a way, Nintendo games are helping Rucker as he boards on a new career as a country-music vocalist. He is still an affiliate of the Blowfish but his solo album, learn how to Live has sold more than 370,000 copies and the single, “Don’t Think I don’t believe About It,” has hit No.1 on the country charts. When he is on the road, Rucker unwinds by playing nation-building games on his Computer . Last month, Rucker’s interest in video games paid off when he was named Microsoft’s Xbox Artist of the Month.

Q : What are your favourite consoles and favorite games? Rucker : PS3 and Xbox are the 2 I play a lot. I play all of the sports games, each new game that comes out. I used to be the best Madden player worldwide ( laughter ). At this time I am huge into the NCAA game, the basketball game. All of the EA Sports games are large for me they should just write me a check for that. On my PC, I like to play the nation-building games : Empire Earth, Empire Earth 3, Civilization God, so many I played over the last two years I will not remember now. I may play on the toughest level and play the longest game I can play and play it for two weeks if I am able to I try and build the largest town in one game cause I like it. Do you do the majority of your playing on the road or home? My other half goes to bed pretty early, around ten at night. I can go up and get a game in on Madden if there’s one going. The nation-building games are giant for me on the road. Who is the most noted person you have ever played and how did you fare? Back in the beginning of the Madden Bowl, I played some soccer players that were pretty famous and I lost in the finals the 1st year I played. The following year there had been an enormous target on my back. All of the EA blokes told them I was the person to beat. I will say this about my game and I’m wishing my other half was here so she could back this up because her favorite thing to do when folk will let us know they play Madden and we’ll go “Are you good?” she will say, “I’ve heard this 1,000,000 times.

I have heard 1,000,000 blokes say to Darius what you are announcing and I am informing you you are not going to beat him.”. I’m saying to blokes all of the time when they assert they win I assert, “Anybody can be king of their crew.”. Rucker : anyone can be king of their crew. I’m going online and get my butt handed to me occasionally. This year they were given that play-action pass play that if you do it with ( Indianapolis Colts players ) Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison, you are going to complete it ninety % of the time. Playstation games have come a good distance but what else are they able to do improve them? What do you want to see? Rucker : The kudos I’m going to give to all of the sports games, particularly to Madden, is for the realism they are bringing to the games each year. I used to remain up to 3 in the morning playing Madden on the internet. This year I went surfing and I play the 1st guy and we have got a great game and I score 2 touchdowns in the last 3 mins to win by 8.

The subsequent guy I play, I am on defense first, and he runs it 3 times in a row.

The first 2 times I stop it and I am thinking he cannot run it on me 3 times.

The 3rd time it is a touchdown, eighty yards. I suspect he cannot do it to me the entire time. The next thing I know it is 41-0 and he is running the same play regularly again. I am here to pretend it is Sun.

and you and me are making an attempt to make the playoffs.” Blokes that play like that.

I can’t tell what to do because each year they do something better. I suspect this year with that glitch ( Harrison and Manning play ) was a step back. You know, when you log on you won’t go for it on fourth and twenty-three. Rucker : I got to give massive ups to Tiger’s game.

Each year it is getting better than the year before.

But his game, I keep informing him, “When am I going to be on the video game?”. On his videogame? No, most of the times we get together is at some function or playing a round of golfing. We’ve discussed playing online, but he likes to play those shoot-em-up games.

I play those but I am not glorious at those. I got 2 42-inches at the bottom and 2 36-inches at the top. And then on a very different wall to the left, I got a 60-inch for my gaming. I’m able to use it for regular Television too but it’s used by me pretty much exclusively for gaming. When my buddies come over, and we would like to play Madden, one of my pet peeves about Madden is when guys attempt to watch one another call their plays. When we play, we are going online and one guy faces one way and the other guy faces the other way and there is no way to observe one another call plays. What do you listen to the majority of your music on? I use those noise-canceling headphones by Sony. It does not sound like it does in my place, with all the bottom that I like. You can get bottom but not true bottom like you can feel it in your butt. I like the sound of records, you know. But I cannot believe technology has come this far. I remember just ten or twelve years gone getting a 100-disc changer and I believed it was actually the best thing ever invented. Now, I got four thousand songs on something that I can hold in my hand. They could sound like crap and I’d be OK with it. So you are not one of those blokes who are terrified of digital music and how it is overtaken the industry? Rucker : I won’t let stuff like that frighten me because it should happen. I am not going to stop digital music from taking place. As fast as they are getting it to where it is tough to pirate, it’s going to be an excellent way to deliver music. I will get my music now and you will send me the cover later.

Rucker : how does one like your transition to country music? The band I am playing with, I do not feel a bit like I am doing much different. When I was with Hootie & the Blowfish, the group wasn’t that much different there’s just a couple of more blokes in the crowd wearing cowboy hats.
