Submitted by on June 22, 2009 – 7:42 pmNo Comment

This isn’t the first time a previous Yahoo executive has joined Microsoft’s team. In Feb , Microsoft related Yahoo VP Larry Heck, had joined the company as senior VP of the web services division of Microsoft’s RD group. Others include Microsoft online unit chief Qi Lu, Sean Suchter, and Scott Moore, who originally started at Microsoft before he later joined Yahoo. Most lately serving as vice chairman of operations at Yahoo, Timmons led the build-out of the organization’s information centers and infrastructure. Before this role, he used to be an Operations Director at GeoCities, as well as served as a senior software engineer at Marconi Dynamics early on in his career.

In the blog post, Arne Josefsberg, GM of infrastructure services at Microsoft Worldwide Foundation Services describes Timmons as a “hands-on leader with a great grasp on the difficulties in his field and an ardent interest in accelerating energy efficiency.

He adds that Timmons brings “valuable experience and understanding in the province of information center site selection.”. In the same post, Microsoft also pronounced it restructured its infrastructure services team inside GFS in mid May.

The organization is now made up of 5 groups, including shared infrastructure, programmable infrastructure, platform hardware and standards, worldwide network services, and the info center services.

According to Josefsberg, the new changes should help align its groups with Microsoft’s “evolving cloud computing business and position [its] infrastructure for the approaching year and beyond.
