Panasonic Develops 50-inch Full HD 3D PDP and High-Precision Active Shutter Glasses

Submitted by on 25 December, 2018 – 4:32 am
Panasonic Corporation has developed a 50-inch Full HD compatible 3D plasma display (PDP) and glasses of high precision active shutter allowing quality viewing of film, true to life 3D images into living rooms. In order to bring Full HD 3D televisions in the market in 2010, the company steps up its efforts in the development of related technology.

Prototype 3D Full HD TV and glasses are displayed at the CEATEC JAPAN 2009 to be held 6 to 10 October in Makuhari Messe in Chiba city, east of Tokyo.

The PDP and evolved glasses Panasonic Full HD Plasma 3D Home Theater System, which was developed in 2008 and consisting of a 103-inch PDP and a Blu-ray Disc. The PDP has a prototype 50-inch screen, which is expected to be the most popular size for home theaters.

This 50-inch PDP from Panasonic uses a newly developed 3D high-speed drive technology that allows rapid pixel lighting, keeping the brightness. The panel also incorporates technology to reduce interference to a minimum to reduce double images (ghosting) that occurs when the left and right eye images are alternately displayed. PDP have an excellent response in full motion video image resolution. The new panel offers even better performance, achieving the quality clear, high and high-resolution images in 3D. The glasses shutter precision actively to incorporate technology from Panasonic, which precisely controls the active windows to the left and right eye images displayed on the PDP.

All these technologies work together with each other to create a Full HD 3D images that provide an immersive, movie-theater-like experience in which viewers can feel as if part of the scene. They represent the concept of 3D product Panasonic: “Bringing the theater experience in living rooms.”

Panasonic has been working to develop its original Full HD 3D technology to create a synergy between the PDP, which excel in moving picture resolution and color reproduction, and Blu-ray Disc, which are capable of faithfully reproducing the high quality of Hollywood 3D movies. Panasonic is working on 3D product development to enable its customers to enjoy the immersive 3D world in their living rooms, orientation to launch products in Japan, Europe and the U.S. 2010. (Subject to approval of the Standard 3D enlarge.)

To describe more about the technologies involved with the new panel, Panasonic recently developed high-speed 3D unity and interference reduction technologies to improve the unique properties of plasma to provide clear images and Full HD 3D images. As PDPs are self-illuminating device with full-motion image resolution, offer a fast response time and are suitable for displaying fast moving images. The 3D technology for high speed processing unit consists of new material and LSI panel, which accelerate pixel lighting, keeping the brightness. Panasonic also developed the technology to reduce interference by using newly developed short time with matches luminescence decay and lighting control technology to reduce duplication of images produced when the left and right eye image alternate on the panel . This technology contributes to the achievement of high quality clear images with high contrast and accurate color reproduction. As new technologies can also be applied to improve the quality of 2D images, have expanded the potential for further developments PPD.

To play 3D images, using the Panasonic Full HD x 2 frame sequential method that images in time sequence, alternatively discrete reproduction of 1920 x 1080 pixel images for left and right eyes in the screen frame by frame. The frame sequential method is widely used in Hollywood 3D movies showing in cinemas. The new panel home entertainment amounts to an entirely new cinema-quality 3D images.

The glasses shutter precision active use Panasonic technology that precisely controls the opening and closing the shutter in synchronization with the left and right eye images displayed alternately in the PDP. This technology enables significant reduction of the interference that degrades the image resolution in 3D. The glasses are designed to suit a wide range of users, from children to seniors.
