PrimaCloud Breaks Cloud Computing Performance Barriers

Submitted by on 19 September, 2020 – 4:33 am

PrimaCloud, a pioneering managed cloud and virtual IT services provider, articulated today that it has utilized the Xsigo I / O Director as the bedrock of its information center interconnect method. The Xsigo I / O Director enables PrimaCloud to smash the barriers of I / O throughput seen in existing cloud computing offerings, permitting end buyers to experience application performance levels that would previously have been achievable only in purpose-built non-public datacenters. In addition, Xsigo’s virtual I / O infrastructure permits PrimaCloud to instantly provision inexpensive virtual personal datacenters for its patrons within minutes.

“Before we found Xsigo, we searched for a while to discover a solution that would let us provision hi-performance virtual personal datacenters for our customers,” announced David Durkee, Chairman of PrimaCloud. “We looked at 10GigE and physical Infiniband interconnects and found they supplied inadequate manageability and throughput to promise our purchasers the fast and trustworthy service we required to fight against existing purpose-built info centers.

With Xsigo’s fast 20Gb / sec connections to our servers, we can ultimately employ the full I / O bandwidth capacity of our VMWare ESX clients. With 3 years of expertise providing cloud computing under the ENKI name, PrimaCloud management was seeing a rising number of company clients running database and transaction-intensive applications — like Oracle — which needed multi-gigabit connections to the vLAN and NAS storage to avoid I / O contention.  In these applications the bandwidth needed per virtual machine surpassed 3Gb / sec, which implied a single cloud server running 10 virtual machines needed over 30Gb / sec total I / O bandwidth.  Only Xsigo virtual I / O, with twin redundant 20Gb / sec I / O connections per server, provided the necessary performance.

The Xsigo I / O Director’s low-latency bandwidth also serves to take maximum advantage of PrimaCloud’s SSD-cached NAS systems to delivery superb application throughput. PrimaCloud’s instantly managed, hypervisor-agnostic cloud design needs a high level of automation to create and manage virtual personal datacenters ( VPDCs ).

The Xsigo I / O Director is able to mechanically provision and manage virtual I / O and VLANs related to virtual examples running VMWare ESX, Citrix, HyperV, and 3Tera’s AppLogic, under the control of PrimaCloud’s implementation of Enigmatec’s EMS, a cross-platform, policy-based automation engine.

Using EMS to configure the I / O Director gets shot of manual work in handling VPDCs, as well as allowing automated scaling of VPDCs to retort to changes in load, leading to heavy end-customer cost benefits. “Our patrons expect to take an information center Visio diagram and make it real inside minutes,” added Durkee. “We could not have done this without the quick scalability and management adaptability that Xsigo enables. Virtual I / O enabled us to realize the ‘virtual’ part of the on-demand virtual non-public information center as well as provision only the resources the client requests.

Xsigo virtual I / O is a critical part of the reference datacenter design PrimaCloud uses to supply on the guarantee of cloud computing : inexpensive, on-demand computing delivered on a pay-as-you-go-basis while meeting establishment necessities for performance and uptime. The simplicity of employing Xsigo Virtual I / O has enabled PrimaCloud’s reference design to be employed in any one of its sixty five datacenters worldwide for public, or hosted personal cloud computing, as well as at consumer sites.
