Rackspace Releases Public API for Cloud Servers

Submitted by on 2 January, 2022 – 4:32 am

The Cloud Servers API beta solution has premiered at web hosting supplier, Rackspace Hosting, as an element of the company’s Infrastructure as a Service offering.  The service provides cheap compute capacity that may be straight away sized permitting companies to pay just for what it uses – as required. Thru the open, standards-based API, Rackspace Cloud customers can now manage their cloud infrastructure with larger control and suppleness.

The API, for instance, enables elastic eventualities as users can write code that programmatically spots load and scales the quantity of server examples up and down. The Rackspace Cloud solicited feedback and conducted comprehensive testing with its partners and cloud developers to help make sure that the community formed the API. With today’s statement, users now have control panel and programmatic access to the company’s cloud infrastructure services.  Michael Mayonnaise , iPhone application developer discussed ”It’s been a great experience to collaborate with the Rackspace Cloud team on the development of the Cloud Servers API.

Collaborating with the Rackspace team helped me to develop my application much more swiftly. I’m very happy with the open feedback process as it makes my work a lot easier. The Cloud Servers API will introduce 4 new features including:. – Server Metadata – Supply server-specific metadata when an example is made that may be accessed thru the API. – Server Information Injection – Identify files when instance is made that may be injected into the server file system before start-up.

This is helpful, as an example, when inserting SSH keys, setting configuration files, or storing info that you wish to retrieve from inside the Cloud Server itself. – Host Identification – The Cloud Servers provisioning algorithm has an anti-affinity property that tries to spread out customer VMs across hosts. Under certain eventualities, Cloud Servers from the same purchaser may be put on the same host. Host identification permits you to programmatically perceive this condition and take acceptable action. – Shared IP Groups – While Rackspace has always supported shared IPs, it’s been made faster with the creation of Shared IP Groups and the power to enable high availability configurations. Rackspace Cloud customers will be ready to manage their Cloud Servers or Cloud Files accounts anytime, anywhere on their iPhones thanks to an application built off the APIs by developer Michael Mayonnaise .

The application is anticipated to be available in the App Store inside a month. With the API, developers can create applications for the Rackspace Cloud which can mechanically access compute power as needed. The Cloud Servers API also permits developers to work with partners on pre-built applications. David Day, CTO, Zeus Technology offered, ”After testing, it is obvious the Cloud Servers API was made to meet the requirements of the community. We are buzzed to be building on such a strong platform.

Emil Sayegh, General Executive , The Rackspace Cloud added, ”With the launch of our API, we’re predicting working with our partners and the developer community to make a tough cloud ecosystem which we think will generate new tools and applications to make cloud hosting even simpler and better. We see programmatic control as necessary for igniting an ecosystem around the Rackspace Cloud. It’s a key tool for generating a new big thing in cloud as it gives developers the power and control to bring their great ideas to fruition.

The Cloud Servers API is implemented employing a Calm web service interface. Launched earlier in the year, Cloud Servers is a compute service that provides server capacity in the cloud to companies of all sizes and leverages key technology developed by Slicehost, LLC, a Rackspace subsidiary. Until today, interaction with Cloud Servers only took place thru the Rackspace Cloud Control Panel ( GUI ) and now programmatically thru the Cloud Servers API.
