Social Networks Suffer Downtime After DDos Attack

Submitted by on 17 June, 2018 – 4:32 pm

A few social networking sites including Twitter, Facebook and LiveJournal suffered passing outages early Thu. morning after being hit by a denial-of-service attack, according to the site’s operators. The site shortly confirmed that it was experiencing a DDos attack and reported at 11:21 am EST that it had resumed service. Netcraft and Pingdom both let slip that the site was down for approximately 3 hours. Company Head honcho Biz Stone addressed the assault and outage in a blog post Thursday morning:.

“On this otherwise chuffed Thu. morning, Twitter is the target of a denial of service attack. Attacks like this are malevolent efforts orchestrated to interrupt and make not available services like online banks, card payment gateways, and in this example, Twitter for intended consumers or users. We are protecting in contrast attack now and will continue to update our standing blog as we continue to protect and later investigate.

Other social community sites,eg Facebook and LiveJournal, suffered temporary, intermittent outages as a consequence of a DDos attack. Facebook was allegedly down at 9:45 am EST, but was ready to load right after with some small problems with posting standing updates and internal links.

Earlier on, sites in the Gawker Media network, which hosts many popular blogs, experienced DDoS-related outages. The Washington Post reported in May on the up to date rise in giant DDos attacks pervading the web.
