Consonus Reveals Energy Efficient Rating for West Data Center
Cary, NC – Consonus recently announced the highest power usage effectiveness (PUE) score for Data Center West in Salt Lake City, Utah. Installation of 15 years old, achieved impressive ratings PUE – a product of energy efficiency efforts implemented by Consonus last year. The industry average is typically between 2.0 and 2.2; West Consonus’ data center PUE score was significantly lower than 1.35.
“The fact that we were able to significantly improve PUE score of an existing facility contradicts a common myth shared by many – these results are only achievable in new facilities,” said Daniel Milburn, senior vice president and chief operating officer of property Consonus infrastructure and services. “We have made strategic changes and added profitable green technologies to provide a data center that not only is the state of the art, but now holds out many benchmarks of efficiency.”
These energy efficiency initiatives are part of the company-wide efforts that focus on the use of green technologies to improve data center energy consumption and carbon footprint of the company. Recently, he was awarded Consonus (EPA) Environmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR ® for Data Center South, also located in Salt Lake City, Utah. This designation is the first commercial data center has achieved this rating and puts Consonus in the top quartile of energy efficiency among the companions of the data center.
“This past year we have conducted more than 40 initiatives to improve energy efficiency data center,” said Chief Information Consonus, Brent wall. “This rating is proof that succeeded in our efforts to reduce energy consumption.”
Some energy efficiency improvements made in the Midwest of data include:
* New evaporative cooling tower
* Cold aisle containment
* Ducted return systems
* High efficiency floor tiles
* Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Modeling and Analysis
In addition, further improvements in multiple data centers Consonus are scheduled to take place next year.
Developed by The Green Grid, a global consortium dedicated to promoting energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems, PUE is a measure of how efficiently a data center computer uses its power, in particular, the load total required to operate IT systems, as well as support systems such as power distribution, humidification and cooling. The lower the PUE level, energy efficient data center.
