Edinburgh Emerging as Centre of Excellence for Ruby on Rails Development in Europe

Submitted by on 3 May, 2021 – 4:32 pm

United Kingdom – the leading European developers ruby Edinburgh will meet in March to participate in legendary Pragmatic Studio, the first European study in the period prior to the Conference of Scotland Ruby the same week. The news signals a move to establish a center of Edinburgh, United Kingdom of excellence for Ruby and Ruby on Rails.

The study will be conducted by EdgeCase, one of the first U.S. boutiques Software, the pioneers of the craft of software and specialists in Ruby; EdgeCase sponsors of the conference, organized primarily by EdgeCase Paul Wilson. EdgeCase members helped build the foundations of Ruby, writing many software developers use Ruby today, and have worked in the U.S. online Yellow Pages, cited as a Ruby application.

EdgeCase UK, Paul Wilson, who heads the company recently opened UK office, explains: “Our goal is to grow the UK market Ruby. Ruby on Rails is a popular application platform with entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and angel investors because it is seen start-ups of the ground quickly, allowing them to move to the next round of financing. And unlike other frameworks for rapid development, gives a solid foundation on which the startup application can be sustainable increased once the funding has been secured. This makes it a perfect fit for the current economic climate and we are attracting much interest from the investment community. ”

The recession is leading to the “lean and mean development, encouraging flexibility and cost about loyalty platform to deliver business efficiency and drive increased revenue.

Companies testing the waters with open source, rich Internet applications and dynamic language frameworks are reaping the benefits of reduced capital costs for software development and lower support costs during implementation.

According to a recent report by Forrester Research on the development of applications, though. NET and Java EE platforms remain the most used applications, there is a strong uptake of alternative platforms like Ruby on Rails.

Forrester continues to suggest a “fit to purpose” approach in which companies seek alternatives outside the global platform tailored to your needs. And be careful with the excess of purchase on behalf of standardization and place real importance on performance.

The market for Ruby on Rails is now reaching maturity, after the success of high profile applications such as Linked In and Yellow Pages of America. Best suited for applications requiring a high level of interactivity and sharing of information between thousands of users, Ruby and Rails supports and encourages the development of evidence-driven.

Research shows that the longer it takes to deliver a product, the less chance of success (Source: Jim Johnson et al, 1988. CHAOS: A recipe for success. Reported in Craig Larman Agile and iterative development). Ruby on Rails are built up to ten times faster than in Java and NET because the ceremony of the “low” nature of Ruby on Rails allows the test-led development, agile software distribution incremental way rather than in one large piece.

Ruby on Rails requires the developer to try everything they write, effectively building a safety net as go.This process results in highly maintainable applications and because 85% of software costs are maintenance costs in the long term the implementation of Ruby applications are significantly reduced.

All software has a shelf life, but due to the iterative nature of Ruby on Rails, can again be factored quickly without changing its functionality, once again the sense of reducing costs in the long term.

EdgeCase produce software early, within two weeks of starting the tests as they move to take a modular approach to building the application piece by piece. This method will permit full disclosure – so that customers can see that the software is being built as you go.

Wilson explains: “We believe in making software” and see ourselves as craftsmen software application development with true craftsmanship that will stand the test of time. We craft and apply old values to cutting edge software development. ”
