.ME Registry to Provide Bloggers Short and Effective URLs

ME, and the popular blog host ( have partnered to create a URL shortener service that allows users to provide abbreviated links to their posts to facilitate the promotion and the use of social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook.

According ‘s announcement on Wednesday, more than 225,000 blogs can direct readers to their latest posts using WP.Me.

“These ties are short about 70 percent less than the permalinks for a job, co-founder of WordPress Matt Mullenweg, said in a statement. “Thanks to our friends in the point-ME Registration, WordPress is able to offer one of the URLs available shortest and most effective today.”

Mullenweg said WP.Me is different from other URL shorteners because all blogs and post on a URL will now only work with WP.Me and hosted URLs. They also offer a greater degree of confidence because shorteners another WordPress constantly monitors and eliminates spam from, making WP.Me virtually spam-free. In addition, the links are permanent and will work as long as is around

Executive director Predrag Lesica said WP.Me is another example of the kind of innovation Dot-ME embraces and celebrates. “In the short time-my point has been, our domain extension has broken many barriers to become much more than just another ccTLD,” Lesica said in a statement. “WordPress saw the potential of dot-ME and applauded for it.”
